Greenough (Horatio) is born in Boston.
September 6, 1805
The son of David and Elizabeth (Bender) Greenough, Horatio Greenough graduates from Harvard College, studies in Rome, then settles in Florence. He becomes the first internationally-known American-born sculptor, and returns to Boston in 1827 and 1836 seeking commissions. Greenough marries Louisa Gore in 1837. He returns to Boston in 1851 and dies at McLean Hospital (in what was then Charlestown) on December 18, 1852.
